Workshop with Phil Donkin

Saturday 18 January 2025, 2pm-5pm
Cost: 95€

Address: Praxis für Körper & Seele, Schliemannstraße 41, 10437 Berlin

Hi everyone,
I will be giving a workshop at Praxis für Körper & Seele, Schliemannstraße 41, 10437 Berlin at 2pm - 5pm.
This workshop is on the subject of practising.  Lots of musicians over the past few years have asked me how I deal with this subject, and I sense it is something they at times could struggle with.
Specifically I will talk about how to overcome creative blocks, how to find out what should be prioritised in one’s practise, to build practise routines, why practise is important, when to practise what, and more.

More about Phil Donkin:

As one of Europe’s most in demand bassists working in jazz today, Phil Donkin has been praised as a musician with « a thundering sound and impeccable time » by The Guardian and as an instrumentalist with « an assertive rhythmic and a sonic bold presence » by Jazzwise. Now, Donkin released his first solo album 'Walk Alone’ (KLAENG Records, 2023), to add to the two albums he released for quartet : 'The Gate’ (2015) and ‘Value’ (2019).  Donkin has performed with some of the greatest current artists in American and European Jazz, including Marc Copland, John Abercrombie, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Ben Monder, Kevin Hays, Shai Maestro, Dhafer Youssef, Tigran Hamasyan, Nir Felder, Jonathan Kreisberg, Ralph Alessi, Gwilym Simcock, Nils Wogram, Ronny Graupe, Kalle Kalima, Bastian Stein and Lucia Cadotsch.

“An impressive accomplishment from a uniquely creative musician.” Jazzwise

“Not just for bass aficionados, but for all that relish in the art of the solo performer.” Jazz Views
